The most common mistake upon waking up is to hit the snooze button of the alarm we set the night before. This may sound very trivial but hitting the snooze button has a two-fold impact on us (mentally and physically). When you hit that snooze button you give a clear signal to your mind that IT IS OK TO PROCRASTINATE and that IT IS OK TO BREAK COMMITMENTS.
You remember the conversation with your friend where you often tell them to do a certain thing at a later date. Or do you want to join a gym but are procrastinating. This habit of procrastinating has seeped deep into you and instead of making it go away, you are making it stronger day after day by hitting that snooze button. By doing so your body will accept this subconsciously as a habit and soon it will show up in other areas of your life and you will be sucked deep into this loophole.
Physically that 10 minutes of sleep never makes you feel fresher. In fact, sleep is divided into cycles and this habit of yours will put your body in the state of sleep inertia. This will make you feel groggy and disoriented for many hours. So it is better to set your alarm for the exact time you need to get up and then instead of hitting snooze you actually get up and start your day with a smile. I bet if you make this small change will make you feel better.

Almost 80 to 90 percent of smartphone holder check their mobile-first thing in the morning. Now you might be wondering what is the big deal if you use your mobile within the first 15 minutes of waking up in the morning. Well, have you heard about the power of your subconscious mind? This topic is so vast that it may take a full day to dive into it, but for starters just understand that your whole life works according to it.

FOUR STATES OF MIND
There are four stages in which our brain functions Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta or (BATD). The higher the brainwave the more chaotic our lives are and the greater is the chance of living a chaotic life. As you sit back and relax your brainwaves slow down from beta to alpha to theta and then delta. So when you wake in the morning you are slowly transitioning from theta wavelength to alpha wavelength.
This is the state in which you set your goals for the day and your brain registers them. In India and many other old civilizations when things are not going the way they had planned they said ” I don’t know whose face I saw in the morning that everything is falling apart “. That means they knew the importance of the morning routine.
So instead of checking your mobile and feeding your brain all the news of social media, sit back and meditate or read a good book or write your own journal and plan your day. You can also energize your body by doing pranayama, yoga. Or simply go on a walk. So the best thing you can do for yourself is to put that phone on your side and utilize your time for your betterment.

Now that you have started your day wonderfully don’t make this mistake. Don’t skip to making your bed after getting off your bed. This task looks insignificant but if you do it right I promise it will do wonders for your mindset. Admiral William H Mc Raven in his famous speech said “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed”.
Well, there is a psychological reason why it is a mandatory practice in military troops to make their bed first thing in the morning. When you make your bed it inculcates discipline in you and also it gives a sense of pride that you have completed the first task of the day. This encourages you to do well in other tasks as well.
Making the bed and cleaning the space around not just sets right the room but also declutters your mind, and not to forget the wonderful feeling of entering a clean room after a whole day of work.

Some of us avoid the morning light entering the room. Well, it might feel nice to keep the lights to entering the room but it is a proven fact that the longer you keep yourself away from the light the longer you will feel tired. One common mistake that people often make is to take a hot shower bath. Unless the weather is extremely cold in that case you should take a lukewarm water shower. However, for a daily bath, you should use a cold shower bath in the morning. You must ask why? Well, a hot water bath causes lethargy, and the cold shower bath instantly energies the body.

Another mistake that we make is that we often take bath just for the sake of taking bath. One should be present while taking a bath, we should feel the water which will actually cleanse the body and mind.
Also, we have the habit of suppressing the urge of emptying the bowels once we get up or the urge to urinate, know that this wreaks havoc on your body and you should avoid doing the same and attend to nature’s call with utmost priority.

After taking bath there is one more mistake that we tend to make which is spending loads of time selecting what to wear, this can be avoided. Some waste time finding up their misplaced clothes, others waste too much time in deciding what to wear.
This creates unnecessary stress and sets the wrong tone for the whole day. So you must choose your dress and also keeping your accessories prepared the night before will not only save your time in the morning but will also make you more organized and save you from the rush.

These days people tend to rush things, if all the above adheres to you will not need to rush through things. But sadly rushing things in the morning makes you skip one of the most important jobs that you must do with all your focus. Rushing out for office without breakfast in the morning is like taking part in an F1 race without putting fuel in your car. It is very important for you to understand that our sleeping body has been starving for hours. Your body needs energy while sleeping to recuperate and in the process utilizes maximum nutrients from the food you last ate.
This makes your body crave nutrients in the morning but due to the rush, you tend to punish it. Breaking fast with food that is not rich in nutrients needed for your body is even more devastating for your body. If you eat unhealthy food which is not rich in nutrients that your body needs, you are more likely to feel food craving the whole day if you don’t eat a healthy breakfast and fuel your body in the correct manner.
DRINKING TEA OR COFFEE | ANOTHER DISASTER
A lot of us just after getting up is in the habit of drinking tea or coffee to kick start our day. This must be avoided at all costs. We should have tea and coffee at other times in the day. Once you wake up there is just one liquid that should enter your body, you must have guessed it right by now. Yes, it is water just drinking plain water is very beneficial for your body. Even lemon water and other herbal juices should be taken after the intake of water. It will be a bit more beneficial if you drink the water after warming it a little.

Now suppose you have to go to a new place where you have never gone before. Isn’t it wise to learn about the route or at least have a general idea as to which way to take? Isn’t it wise to take the help of google maps instead of hoping for the best and driving towards your destination? It will only waste your time and energy.
Similarly, a day goes well if it is planned in advance. If you don’t plan your day you will get consumed in the day-to-day activities and you will have to work according to the situations you are presented with. You may not give your best and finish the work at hand if no proper planning is there. Simply jot down the goals you wish to accomplish on a particular day. It could be small chores, habits, and projects, or personal passions. Just note them down and keep a track of them at the end of the day so as to understand where you are lagging.
